"Automation error" - question from an IIS novice

***The issue has sorted itself out ***
I just went back to XP Pro IIS Admin after a couple of days, and it seems to be working perfectly.
No idea why - I didn't change any settings anywhere - as far as I know, all that's happened since I posted this original message was shut down the PC.

***original message posted 2 days ago***

Hi there, I hope you can help me.

I just downloaded and installed XP Pro IIS Admin (1.8.0), and created (or thought i'd created) 2 websites with it. I saw an old post on this this forum re. hosts file, so I've added my 2 extra domains to the hosta file under /system32/drivers/etc/.
But when i try to run any of the websites (including the default localhost), I get the error message: "Unable to start webserver. Error was: Automation error. the request is not supported. Please try again".

Does this give any indication to anyone out there as to what I might have done wrong?

When creating the websites, I browsed to and selected the folder:
C:/inetpub/wwwroot/mywebsiteName

And i have noticed that IIS Admin has created a folder called /wwwroot2/ (and /wwwroot3/ when i created the second website) I did try adding my website folders to these directories as well, but got the same message.

I'm sure its something really simple that I'm doing wrong, but my inexperience is holding me back!
Any help on this would be much appreciated.

many thanks!

Re: "Automation error" - question from an IIS novice

this was probably IIS service COM error (inside the XP) IISAdmin was unable to start non responding IIS service..
